28. THE COMBINED FLEETS IN THE BLACK SEA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] MALTA, APRIL 22. Since the 13th instant, the date of my last report, I have to advise the arrival on that day, in the Colombo, after a fine run of eight days and a half from Southampton, of Commissary-General Filder, C.B., Deputy Commissaries-General Adams and Fletcher, Acting Deputy-Assistant Commissary-General Murray, Acting Commissariat Clerk Murray, Acting Commissariat Clerk Rogers, and Storekeepers Hayes and Parvoe, who all went to Constantinople on the 15th in the French steamer Thabor, together with Treasury Clerk Cookesley, and several others of the commissariat staff who had previously reached Malta, leaving the department at this island very short-handed. Mr. Baynes, son of the British Consul-General at Tunis, having a knowledge of the Russian knowledge; Mr. Casolani, speaking the Turkish and Prussian; Mr. Innes, educated at the Protestant College at St. Julian’s, and speaking Turkish and Greek; Mr. Nani, also speaking the Russian; and Messrs. Garein and Podestà, acquainted with the English, French, and Maltese tongues, have been employed as clerks, interpreters, &c.; and have orders to hold themselves in readiness to embark in the Sovereign steam-transport, expected from England. ...
