Royal Marines
who served in the Royal Naval Brigade

( from the Royal Naval Brigade Muster, Medal Rolls &c. )

These names have been extracted from the Royal Naval Brigade muster  ADM 38/4674 96731  at The National Archives, and compared to the Inkerman and Sevastopol medal rolls for the RNB,  ADM 171/24 .

The 'SHIP' column indicates ship of origin recorded in the muster, and 'DATE RNB' the date ashore recorded in the muster. When these are blank, it indicates the information has been imported from the medal rolls, and that the individual must have gone ashore after the muster was abandoned in the middle of 1855.

There is one anomaly: Private James Hury, or Hervey, or Huey, went ashore 18 December 1854 according to the muster, but got the Inkerman Clasp (Inkerman was fought 5 November), but not the Sevastopol, according to the medal rolls! However, in the campaign medal roll for Wasp  ADM 171/28  he is recorded as Huey, and a Gunner, and only got the S Clasp — which is much more likely if his date ashore is accurate. So the clerks got in a thorough muddle with him!

Errors in the spelling of individual's names have been corrected — when known — to simplify searching. For the same reason, full names have been used, unlike the originals which often only employed initials for most middle names. It will be noted however, that a few initials remain obstinately defying identification — not necessarily on this particular page, but throughout this site where lists of names have been transcribed. Any help with these would be much appreciated — please email the webmaster at the address given on the contact page. Indeed, the webmaster would like to hear from you if you are researching anyone in this, or other lists.

Royal Marine officers who served ashore in the Crimea or in the Black Sea in general are linked to their War Services in Hart's New Army Lists (1856, 1858 or 1859) like this: War Services Army List 1859

Note that this table only records the Inkerman and Sevastopol Clasps for the Crimean Medal.
